Fujitsu V8 Series racer David Russell has secured a new backer in restaurant chain Nando’s for this weekend’s round of the Development Series at Townsville.
Nando’s, famed for its Portuguese style flame grilled Peri-Peri chicken, is promoting its Townsville franchise in Kirwan with signage on David Russell’s Team Jayco BF Falcon V8 Supercar.
The radio promotion with 106.3 FM has been conducted in the two weeks leading up to the Sucrogen Townsville 400, during which anyone who purchases a shared platter at Nando’s Townsville will be in the running to win one of two hot laps and a behind the scenes tour with Russell, or one of five double passes to the three-day event.
Russell, currently third in the Fujitsu V8 Series with three podium results this year, said that he was gracious for Nando’s support.
“It’s a very special event and I could think of no better way to reward Nando’s for its support than to finish at the front of the field,” he said.
“The Townsville street circuit has an exciting and challenging layout and the event has a great atmosphere due to the support it gets from the fantastic North Queensland fans.
“You have to throw the car around a lot at this track, so you need to be on top your game and car set-up.”
Nando’s Brand Manager and Head of Local Area Marketing Barbara Karametos says that the sponsorship is a way to recognise emerging talent.
“At Nando’s we always take the non-traditional approach to marketing, we are a challenger brand and are always looking at new and exciting ways to support our local franchisees and upcoming sporting talent,” she said.
“We saw this opportunity as the perfect marriage of both and look forward to the community getting behind us during this great event.”
After this weekend’s Fujitsu Series round, Russell will focus his attention on his V8 Supercars endurance drive at Phillip Island and Bathurst with Jonathon Webb in the Dick Johnson Racing Falcon FG.
